Engagement is the key to success

Sometimes projects come into your life that causes skepticism at first glance and a feeling of routine. But with immersion in the project, you radically change your mind. It also happened to me. At the entrance, this project did not look attractive, although its scale was clear to the naked eye. Interface for working with city cameras. Of course, they are directly related to the big brother. And yet, I was imbued with the task of making the interface friendly and native.

Its important feature is the target audience. As a rule, such cameras can be controlled by a variety of people, and yet the scenarios for their behavior are very transparent. Switching between cameras, displaying different combinations of cameras, rotations, the ability to clear, upload data, etc.

I got absolute pleasure from communicating with ladies 50+ (no dirty thoughts, please). Tea flowed like a river, and conversations and stories went one after another. I still fondly remember those gatherings. We even captured a few shots from their workplaces. They helped us form the first hypotheses.

And yet the main task was to work with the interface. But all of the interviewees (not just the previously mentioned ladies) were extremely helpful with their feedback and thoughts. This helped us understand the composition of the workspace. Where what tools should be located and what actions are most in demand. The main cases were devoted to working with the map and cameras.

We integrated it into the Yandex API, so we didn't have the option to play with the city array itself. But we integrated our styles for rendering (with respect to the snazzy maps service, where we selected styles and passed them to the front, unfortunately, it does not work directly with the Yandex API). We also selected several styles for comfortable work under different lighting conditions.

When working with cameras, it was important for us to give a clear and convenient interface with output patterns and work with addresses. Initially, our task was to work with Moscow, but as far as I know, in the future, this was scaled to other cities. The interface is also in demand when working with a specific camera since there are

several functionalities. All of them are quite typical: turning, cleaning, washing. But one case seemed much more interesting to us, the ability to upload data for a certain time. We have left an exit point on the unloading request. By clicking, a person can select the required segment and this data will be unloaded.

Conclusion

The project gave me a lot. For the first time, I shot some kind of backstage for the project, I learned how to build a dialogue with users. And it should be noted that it turned out well, my diplomacy and clear speech (by the way, I was engaged in the theater for almost 10 years) made their contribution. The data we received from direct users turned out to be extremely valuable and helped us solve the problem.
